This thesis investigates the emotion of anger by integrating psychoanalytic and evolutionary perspectives. Psychoanalytic literature – from Freud, Klein, Winnicott, and Kohut to Menninger, Kernberg, and Davanloo – has traditionally framed anger negatively, linking it to aggressive acts toward oneself or others. In contrast, the evolutionary perspective, aligned with Winnicott, emphasizes the adaptive and positive role of aggression. Sell’s Recalibration Theory proposes that anger functions to recalibrate the value others attribute to the individual. This integration is further explored through shared concepts such as self-esteem, self-love, self-assertion, and entitlement. It is hypothesized that perceiving a lower value attributed by others elicits anger, which also manifests physiologically, measurable through heart rate and skin conductance. The study analyzed eight therapy sessions with one caregiver of a patient with a neurodegenerative disease, recording physiological indices from both members of the therapeutic dyad.

Abstract
The study analyzed eight therapy sessions with one caregiver of a patient with a neurodegenerative disease, recording physiological indices from both members of the therapeutic dyad.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
