The study explored the relationship between early maladaptive schemas, dysfunctional modes, and orthorexic traits, aiming to understand Orthorexia Nervosa through the Schema Therapy model of Jeffrey Young. A non-clinical sample was assessed through three validated psychometric instruments: the Orthorexia Nervosa Inventory (ONI), the Italian-DOS (I-DOS), and the Schema Mode Inventory – Eating Disorders Version (SMI-ED). Outcomes highlighted a moderate presence of orthorexic traits, with significant correlations between orthorexic dimensions and dysfunctional modes and a negative relationship with the Healthy Adult mode. These results suggest that orthorexic behaviors function as dysfunctional emotional regulation strategies based on control and perfectionism. From a clinical perspective, the outcomes support the relevance of Schema Therapy in the treatment of Orthorexia Nervosa, emphasizing the importance of working on unmet emotional needs and fostering a more flexible and compassionate relationship with the individual and food.

Abstract
From a clinical perspective, the outcomes support the relevance of Schema Therapy in the treatment of Orthorexia Nervosa, emphasizing the importance of working on unmet emotional needs and fostering a more flexible and compassionate relationship with the individual and food.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
