The thesis project "Lives on Stage: The Musical Biopic. Some Contemporary Examples" analyzes the theme of the biographical film, with particular focus on the musical biopic and its evolution in the contemporary landscape. The first chapter explores the origins and development of the biographical genre, from its early experimental forms to its contemporary variations, drawing on theoretical reflections by scholars such as George Custen, Dennis Bingham, and Thomas Schatz. The second chapter focuses on the relationship between music and cinema, considering music as a fundamental cinematic element, capable of establishing a meaningful relationship with images and of assuming narrative, emotional, and identity functions. Finally, the third chapter offers an analysis of some representative case studies of the contemporary musical biopic. The research aims to demonstrate how the musical biopic today takes shape as a hybrid and dynamic genre, able to recount the lives of artists within a contemporary social and cultural context.
Il progetto di tesi "Vite in scena: il biopic musicale. Alcuni esempi contemporanei" analizza il tema del film biografico, con particolare attenzione al biopic musicale e alla sua evoluzione nel panorama contemporaneo. Nel primo capitolo viene analizzata la nascita e lo sviluppo del genere biografico, dalle sue prime forme sperimentali fino alle declinazioni contemporanee, attraverso riflessioni teoriche di studiosi come George Custen, Dennis Bingham e Thomas Schatz. Il secondo capitolo si concentra sul rapporto tra musica e cinema, considerando la musica come elemento cinematografico fondamentale, capace di instaurare una relazione significativa con le immagini e di assumere funzioni narrative, emotive e identitarie. Infine, il terzo capitolo propone un’analisi di alcuni casi di studio rappresentativi del biopic musicale contemporaneo. La ricerca intende dimostrare come il biopic musicale si configuri oggi come un genere ibrido e dinamico, capace di raccontare la vita degli artisti in un contesto sociale e culturale contemporaneo.
