L'identité alguéroise au prisme de l’«Invitació a l’Alguer actual» de Pere Català i Roca

As the result of Aragonese and Spanish domination in Southern Italy, Sicily and Sardinia islands, the presence of the Catalan language is today limited to the city of Alghero, l’Alguer, in the north-western Sardinia. After a long period of limited contact between Catalonia and Alghero, the Catalan writer Pere Català i Roca set out to change this dynamic through his book «Invitació a l’Alguer actual». Published in 1957 during the Franco dictatorship, the work argues for the re-establishment of linguistic and cultural ties between Catalonia and Alghero, grounding its argument in the shared language that links both sides of the Mediterranean. This dissertation aims to analyse and understand the perceptions of Algherese identity articulated in «Invitació a l’Alguer actual». These perceptions constitute a key element of the new connections envisioned by the author.

Frutto del dominio aragonese e poi spagnolo nel Mezzogiorno e nelle isole di Sicilia e Sardegna, la presenza della lingua catalana in Italia è circoscritta oggi alla città di Alghero, l’Alguer, nel nord-ovest della Sardegna. Dopo un lungo periodo marcato da scarsi contatti tra Catalogna e Alghero, il catalano Pere Català i Roca propone, attraverso il suo libro «Invitació a l’Alguer actual», di cambiare questa dinamica. L’autore pubblica questo libro nel 1957, in piena dittatura franchista, ed espone al suo lettore la necessità di ricreare legami linguistici e culturali con gli algheresi fondandosi sull’argomento della lingua condivisa da entrambe le sponde del Mediterraneo. Questa tesi di laurea magistrale intende comprendere, analizzare e rendere conto delle percezioni sull’identità algherese espressa nel libro, elemento chiave del riavvicinamento voluto dall’autore.
