The goal of this paper is to analyse how recent technology invention and technology tools can help the spotting, subtitling and translation of subtitles, in particular subtitles for a documentary audiovisual media. Considering the rapid evolution of audiovisual media and translation studies and considering how present audiovisual media are in our world, studies on the relationship between technology, automatic tools and audio-visual media subtitling could become essential in the future of subtitling. To conduct this research, I used a tools to automatically generate the subtitles for the Italian documentary “Meraviglie, Dal Palazzo della Ragione di Padova alle meraviglie del Miglio d'Oro nel Golfo di Napoli”, in particular the section dedicated to the city of Padova. After editing and analysing the errors made by the automatic tool, I used a CAT TOOL and a machine translation service to automatically translate the subtitles, from Italian to English, analyzing the type of errors made by the machine translation, from a linguistic and technical point of view. The question I want to try to answer is whether automatic tools can be considered helpful to the Language Service Provider and how they can be used to improve Audiovisual Translation.
