-This research project examines how a deeply established family-owned business can support sustainable local development by aligning economic efficiency, environmental responsibility, and social welfare within a multi-territorial organisational setting. Placing emphasis on Brazzale S.p.A., Italy’s oldest dairy company, the case study explores how historic firms rooted in regional contexts respond to global challenges, covering aspects like climate change, resource constraints, and evolving agri-food governance. Furthermore, the analysis draws on the literature on place-based development, industrial districts, civil economy, and shared value, which provide a conceptual and analytical structure for understanding the bond involving industry players, commercial organisations, territorial settings, and societal wellbeing. Methodologically, the inquiry adopts a case-based investigation supported by field observation, semi-structured interviews, documentary evidence, and reliable external sources. The assessment covers primarily the corporate group’s core spatial settings in Italy, the Czech Republic, and Brazil, evaluating internal routines, environmental strategies, employee welfare initiatives, and interregional coordination. Findings present evidence that the entrepreneurial reality has developed a coherent sustainability configuration pairing carbon-neutral productive systems, agro-ecological solutions, and a long-term stance to human capital. In its entirety, the group’s silvopastoral agroforestry system in Mato Grosso do Sul, in tandem with its multi-sited agro-dairy supply network, showcases how environmental mitigation and productivity can co-exist as complementary dimensions. Likewise, corporate welfare measures provide evidence of how people-centred investments can tighten a company’s internal cohesion and sustain the corporate body’s spatially distributed embeddedness. The documented scenario brings into focus that historic, established, longstanding firms can fulfil the dual role of local development agents and global sustainability actors. By coordinating ecological practices, shared social welfare, and organisational continuity, Brazzale S.p.A. offers an insightful practical instance of how traditional production groups can reinterpret their part in a rapidly evolving economic, social, environmental and local-to-global landscape.
-Questo progetto di ricerca esamina come un’impresa familiare storicamente consolidata possa sostenere lo sviluppo locale in chiave sostenibile, allineando efficienza economica, responsabilità ambientale e benessere sociale all’interno di un assetto organizzativo multi-territoriale. Ponendo l’attenzione su Brazzale S.p.A., la più antica azienda lattiero-casearia d’Italia, il caso di studio analizza come imprese storiche radicate in contesti regionali rispondano alle sfide globali, tra cui cambiamento climatico, la scarsità di risorse ed evoluzione della governance agroalimentare. L’analisi si basa inoltre sulla letteratura riguardante lo sviluppo "place-based", i distretti industriali, l’economia civile e il valore condiviso, che forniscono una cornice concettuale e analitica utile a comprendere le relazioni tra attori industriali, organizzazioni commerciali, contesti territoriali e benessere sociale. Dal punto di vista metodologico, l’indagine adotta un approccio basato su case study supportato da osservazione sul campo, interviste semi-strutturate, documentazione aziendale e fonti esterne attendibili. La valutazione riguarda principalmente i contesti spaziali chiave del gruppo aziendale in Italia, Repubblica Ceca e Brasile, analizzando routine interne, strategie ambientali, iniziative di welfare aziendale e coordinamento interregionale. I risultati evidenziano come la realtà imprenditoriale abbia sviluppato una configurazione di sostenibilità coerente, unendo sistemi produttivi carbon-neutral, soluzioni agro-ecologiche e un orientamento di lungo periodo verso il capitale umano. Nel suo complesso, il sistema agroforestale silvopastorale sviluppato nel Mato Grosso do Sul, insieme alla rete agro-lattiero-casearia multisito del gruppo, dimostra come mitigazione ambientale e produttività possano coesistere come dimensioni complementari. Allo stesso modo, le misure di welfare aziendale forniscono evidenze di come investimenti centrati sulla persona possano rafforzare la coesione interna dell’impresa e sostenere il radicamento territoriale della sua struttura distribuita. Il quadro documentato mette in luce come imprese storiche e consolidate possano ricoprire un duplice ruolo: agenti di sviluppo locale e attori della sostenibilità globale. Coordinando pratiche ecologiche, welfare sociale condiviso e continuità organizzativa, Brazzale S.p.A. offre un esempio concreto e significativo di come gruppi produttivi tradizionali possano reinterpretare il proprio ruolo in uno scenario economico, sociale, ambientale e territoriale in rapido mutamento.
