This dissertation examines the testimonies of several individuals who were present in Constantinople on 29 May 1453, the day of the Ottoman conquest of the Byzantine capital: for each of the individuals it analyses the reasons for their presence in the city, as well as their role in the context of the siege, the route they took to flee, the support networks they relied on, and the resonance of their testimony in their cities of origin and in Europe at the time.
Questa tesi esamina le testimonianze di alcuni personaggi presenti a Costantinopoli il 29 maggio 1453, giorno della conquista ottomana della capitale bizantina: per ciascuno di essi sono analizzate le ragioni della loro presenza in città, il loro ruolo nel contesto dell’assedio, il percorso di esodo che seguono per fuggire, le reti di supporto cui si appoggiano e la risonanza della loro testimonianza nelle loro città di provenienza e nell’Europa del tempo.
