This thesis focuses on Giambattista Brocchi, 1772-1826, one of the greatest naturalists of the 19th century. In the early 19th century, he became professor of Botany and Natural History at the Liceo del Dpartimento del Mella, now the Liceo Arnaldo in Brescia, and was entrusted with managing the Liceo's botanical garden. The aim of this thesis is to reconstruct the life of the Liceo's botanical garden, destroyed following the Austrian advance of 1799, through the study of archival sources. It will also focus on reconstructing the botanical correspondence begun as early as 1802 with various naturalists. This study aims to bring to light a previously hidden part of both Brocchi's life and the Brescia botanical garden.
