This thesis work aims to analyze a specific aspect of the JUICE mission developed by ESA, which will start in September 2022 and will focus on the study of Jupiter and its icy moons. The observational capacity of the camera mounted on board the spacecraft, JANUS, will be analyzed investigating the field of view of the same during the observation of Ganymede in low orbit foreseen for the final phase of the mission, the GCO − 500. The first chapter will be an overview of the mission in a general sense, starting from the past missions carried out in the Jovian system, passing through the general objectives of the mission and concluding with some characteristics of Ganymede, of the spacecraft and a brief description for each instrument mounted on board of JUICE. The second chapter will concern the path that will face the mission in its entirety, illustrating both the part of interplanetary journey to reach the Jovian system starting from the Earth, and the scientific phase concerning the study of Jupiter and the medicei satellites, in particular Ganymede. In the next chapter, the JANUS camera will be carefully analyzed, illustrating the characteristics of the optics, the filters, and the resolution capacity during the various phases of the mission. The scientific objectives that JANUS, together with other tools, will be able to achieve will be illustrated. In the concluding part of the chapter the simulations conducted through MAPPS, by ESA, will be addressed, analyzing their various aspects. In the fourth chapter some concepts of orbital mechanics will be exposed, useful for a greater understanding of the elaborate; in particular the typologies of orbits, the concept of sphere of influence, gravity assist, orbital parameters and body-fixed and inertial reference systems will be defined. In the first part of the fifth chapter there will be a brief explanation of the spice kernels, the files used in this report to be able to obtain all the data necessary to carry out the simulations. The second part will concern Matlab (MICE) and GMAT, the softwares that will allow to carry out the computational/simulation part and will provide the results. The last chapter will relate to the processing of data and the presentation of the results obtained, with related comments, through the use of graphs and tables. The paper will end with a conclusion in which the work carried out will be analyzed in its entirety, further commenting in a summary manner what has been achieved in terms of results; critical issues will be addressed and possible improvements and/or changes will be evaluated.
