This thesis explores the concept of postmemory as a tool for understanding the traces of historical trauma and its transmission to subsequent generations, focusing on the representation of the Spanish Civil War and Francoism in Manuel Rivas' narrative. Starting from the theoretical framework developed by Marianne Hirsch, the work investigates how memory that has not been directly experienced is embodied in cultural and literary forms, becoming an emotional, political and symbolic legacy. The analysis focuses on two fundamental works by the Galician author: El lápiz del carpintero (1998), where the saving power of art and words contrasts with violence and repression, and Los libros arden mal (2006), which offers a choral mosaic of voices, silences and fragments capable of restoring the complexity of historical memory. Through these texts, the thesis highlights the mechanisms of censorship, oblivion and destruction of memory operated by the regime, but also the forms of resistance and intergenerational transmission that have ensured its survival. Special attention is paid to the role of silence, bodies and objects as vehicles of memory, and to the tension between individual memory and collective construction. The aim is to show how Rivas's literature contributes not only to the reworking of a traumatic past, but also to the construction of a critical and inclusive memory, capable of questioning the present and opening up possibilities for symbolic reparation. In this sense, the thesis asserts the ethical and political function of literature as a space of resistance to oblivion and of responsibility towards future generations.

Abstract
In this sense, the thesis asserts the ethical and political function of literature as a space of resistance to oblivion and of responsibility towards future generations.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
