This thesis analyzes the role of universities in shaping urban transformation in German cities. The work is divided into two main sections. Firstly, the analysis with a geographic information system to map and represent university locations and their attributes such as city population, campus structure, and student numbers. Based on this analysis, three universities - each representing different campus types and different sized host cities - are selected for further study. In the second part, the urban dynamics, spatial transformation and demographic, economic and social developments between the universities and their host cities are investigated. By exploring these interactions, the thesis highlights how universities and cities influence each other's growth and transformation over time.
