The growing demand for psychological support within general medical practices highlights the need for integrated and easily accessible intervention models. This thesis examines the role of primary care psychology, tracing its international development and its recent evolution in the Italian context, strengthened by new regulations and early regional pilot programs. The research also presents an analysis of a pilot project implemented in a general practice clinic in Padua, describing its launch, methodology, assessment tools, and preliminary results from the first year: patient characteristics, types of interventions offered, and clinical outcomes. An in-depth examination of two clinical cases—a panic disorder and a case of early relational trauma—illustrates the processes of assessment, case formulation, and intervention (brief CBT and EMDR), as well as the changes reported by patients. Overall, the findings support the usefulness of primary care psychology as a service capable of detecting psychological distress early, providing effective brief interventions, and promoting collaboration between psychologists and general practitioners.

Abstract
Overall, the findings support the usefulness of primary care psychology as a service capable of detecting psychological distress early, providing effective brief interventions, and promoting collaboration between psychologists and general practitioners.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
