This thesis explores the relationship between disability and emotional functioning through a theoretical framework and the in-depth analysis of a clinical case. The work examines the psychological dimensions involved in developmental and cognitive disabilities, with particular attention to affective regulation, relational dynamics, and adaptive functioning. The theoretical section outlines the main psychological models that describe how emotional processes develop and are expressed in individuals with disabilities, highlighting the role of environmental, familial, and educational factors. The clinical case presented illustrates the application of these theories in practice, offering a detailed assessment of the subject’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral profile. Through qualitative observation and structured analysis, the study identifies key areas of strength and vulnerability, emphasizing the importance of individualized interventions and multidisciplinary collaboration. The findings underline how disability cannot be understood solely in terms of deficits, but rather as a complex interaction between biological predispositions, emotional experiences, and relational contexts. Overall, the thesis highlights the essential role of psychology in promoting well-being, enhancing adaptive skills, and supporting the emotional development of individuals with disabilities.
