Roma children in European Union still face discrimination and marginalization while entering and attending school. This thesis will seek to understand how differences in institutional arrangements in Italy and Czechia influence the implementation and the impact of the European Framework for school integration of Roma children. The local actors’ understanding and promotion of inclusion is crucial for the implementation of the strategy. For this reason, the insights about the actual realization of European-funded projects are collected through semi-structured interviews with practitioners (e.g. primary school teachers and social workers). This triangulation of different methods - policy analysis, and qualitative interviews - allows the author of this thesis to provide policy recommendations informed by general concerns and adjusted to local settings.

Abstract
Roma children in European Union still face discrimination and marginalization while entering and attending school. This thesis will seek to understand how differences in institutional arrangements in Italy and Czechia influence the implementation and the impact of the European Framework for school integration of Roma children. The local actors’ understanding and promotion of inclusion is crucial for the implementation of the strategy. For this reason, the insights about the actual realization of European-funded projects are collected through semi-structured interviews with practitioners (e.g. primary school teachers and social workers). This triangulation of different methods - policy analysis, and qualitative interviews - allows the author of this thesis to provide policy recommendations informed by general concerns and adjusted to local settings.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
