Esperienza didattica sul tema dell'Antropocene erogata all'interno di un corso universitario

The term Anthropocene in recent years seems to have entered everyday use. It is mentioned in scientific and non-scientific articles and most likely all of us have heard it used at least once, especially in recent years thanks to the "Fridays For Future" movement. But what does it mean? Does it have geological values? This is what the stratigraphy commission of the "Geological Society of London" asked itself, which finally requested the competent bodies of the IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences), or the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) to instruct the practice to formalize the term and use it as a chronostratigraphic and geochronological unit of the Geological Scale of time. To this end, an ad hoc working group was created, the "Anthropocene Working Group" (AWG) which used the term coined for the first time by Paul Crutzen in 2000 and tried to provide the scientific community with all the necessary elements to define precisely and with high correlation potential this important moment in the geological history of planet Earth. This thesis consists in the design and performance of a teaching activity to be provided to university students attending the teaching of Paleontology of the Course of Studies in Natural Sciences of the University of Padua. The thesis describes the different phases of the project and analyzes the dataset acquired thanks to the administration of pre- and post-didactic intervention questionnaires, In particular the previous knowledge and the effectiveness of the proposed activity in providing all the useful information for a correct and broad vision of the topic will be discussed. The degree of involvement of the participants and the possible ways to implement the delivery of the activity will also be discussed.

Il termine Antropocene negli ultimi anni sembra essere entrato nell'uso quotidiano. Viene citato in articoli scientifici e non, e molto probabilmente tutti noi lo abbiamo sentito utilizzare almeno una volta, specialmente negli ultimi anni grazie al movimento “Fridays For Future”. Ma cosa significa? Ha valenze geologiche? Questo è quello che si è chiesto la commissione di stratigrafia della “Geological Society of London”, che infine ha richiesto agli organi competenti del IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences), ovvero la International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) di istruire la pratica per formalizzare il termine e utilizzarlo come unità cronostratigrafica e geocronologica della Scale Geologica del tempo.. A questo scopo è stato creato un gruppo di lavoro ad hoc, l’”Anthropocene Working Group” (AWG) che ha utilizzato il termine coniato per la prima volta da Paul Crutzen nel 2000 e ha cercato di fornire alla comunità scientifica tutti gli elementi necessari per definire in maniera precisa e con alto potenziale di correlazione questo importante momento nella storia geologica del pianeta Terra. Questa tesi consiste nella progettazione e svolgimento di un’attività didattica da erogarsi a studenti universitari frequentanti l’insegnamento di Paleontologia del Corso di Studi in Scienze Naturali dell’Università degli studi di Padova. Nella tesi sono descritte le diverse fasi della del progetto e viene analizzato il dataset acquisito grazie alla somministrazione di questionari pre- e post- intervento didattico, In particolare verranno discusse le conoscenze pregresse e l’efficacia dell’attività proposta nel fornire tutte le informazioni utili per una corretta e ampia visione dell’argomento. Verrà inoltre discusso il grado di coinvolgimento dei partecipanti e le possibili modalità atte ad implementare l’erogazione dell’attività.
