The importance of energy security has been a prominent agenda item for over two centuries, but never have there been more threats than today. From the ongoing geopolitical struggles in the most oil rich nations in the world to the rapidly evolving technologic landscape, the intricacies of energy security are both complex and ever changing. The United States and European Union understand these complexities, yet, have different goals and methods for addressing them. This paper will tackle the multi-layered and complex energy security issues faced by both the United States and the European Union, taking special care to address the value of maintaining international partnerships to achieve individual energy security even with diverging strategies.
