Nowadays, slowbalization is an important phenomenon influencing the global value chain. Therefore, the purpose of the thesis is to analyse the impact of investments in automation on the GVC participation indices. The research is supported by an empirical analysis which relies on the use of Panel Vector Autoregressive (PVAR) models. The investigation of past trends of robotics investments allowed to predict short-term forecast of global value chain participation, observing that a higher degree of automation leads to an overall reduction in GVC participation, encouraging reshoring.

Abstract

Nowadays, slowbalization is an important phenomenon influencing the global value chain. Therefore, the purpose of the thesis is to analyse the impact of investments in automation on the GVC participation indices. The research is supported by an empirical analysis which relies on the use of Panel Vector Autoregressive (PVAR) models. The investigation of past trends of robotics investments allowed to predict short-term forecast of global value chain participation, observing that a higher degree of automation leads to an overall reduction in GVC participation, encouraging reshoring.
