In recent decades, storytelling has emerged as a central strategic tool in communication, including institutional practices, playing a particularly significant role for international organizations operating in complex, global, and highly mediatized contexts. This thesis examines storytelling as a strategic communication tool, exploring its main forms, approaches, and theoretical implications, with a specific focus on digital and transmedia dimensions, taking INTERPOL as a case study, the leading international police organization, known for managing information and global communication campaigns. Through a theoretical and analytical approach, the thesis demonstrates that storytelling functions not only as a means of message dissemination but also as a form of communicative governance, capable of shaping perceptions, relationships, and trust between institutions and the public. The study provides a critical framework to understand the potential and challenges of institutional storytelling within contemporary international organizations.
Negli ultimi decenni, lo storytelling si è affermato come uno strumento strategico centrale nella comunicazione, comprese le pratiche istituzionali, assumendo un ruolo particolarmente rilevante per le organizzazioni internazionali operanti in contesti complessi, globali e altamente mediatizzati. La presente tesi analizza lo storytelling come strumento di comunicazione strategica, esplorandone le principali forme, approcci e implicazioni teoriche, con un focus specifico sulle dimensioni digitale e transmediale, prendendo come caso studio INTERPOL, la principale organizzazione internazionale di polizia, nota per la gestione di informazioni e campagne comunicative a livello globale. Attraverso un approccio teorico-analitico, la tesi mostra come lo storytelling non sia soltanto uno strumento di diffusione dei messaggi, ma anche un mezzo di governance comunicativa, capace di influenzare percezioni, relazioni e dinamiche di fiducia tra istituzioni e pubblico. Il lavoro offre un quadro critico finalizzato a comprendere le potenzialità e le sfide dello storytelling istituzionale nel contesto delle organizzazioni internazionali contemporanee.
