The thesis explores tourism as a cultural and discursive practice, focusing on how the tourist imaginary is constructed through various narrative and media forms. It analyzes the symbolic differences between travelers and tourists, as well as the role of travel writing, print media, and guidebooks in the emergence of modern tourism. The analysis also extends to the representation of travel in audiovisual media, highlighting how images contribute to the global dissemination of destinations. Particular attention is given to translation in the tourist discourse and the role of the translator as a cultural mediator. Finally, the impact of new digital media and online narratives on the reworking of the tourist imaginary is considered.
La tesi esplora il turismo come una pratica culturale e discorsiva, focalizzandosi su come si costruisce l’immaginario turistico attraverso varie forme narrative e mediali. Si analizzano le differenze simboliche tra viaggiatori e turisti, nonché il ruolo della travel writing, della stampa e delle guide turistiche nell’emergere del turismo moderno. L'analisi si estende anche alla rappresentazione del viaggio nei media audiovisivi, mettendo in luce come le immagini contribuiscano alla diffusione globale delle destinazioni. Viene prestata particolare attenzione alla traduzione nel discorso turistico e al ruolo del traduttore come mediatore culturale. Infine, si considera l’impatto dei nuovi media digitali e delle narrazioni online sulla rielaborazione dell’immaginario turistico.
