This thesis examines the poetic work of Maksim Bogdanovič (1891–1917), a central figure in the formation of modern Belarusian poetry and an author active in the cultural context of early twentieth-century Eastern Europe. The study aims to analyse his lyric production in relation to the interaction between Belarusian folk tradition, Russian literary culture, and European modernist movements, with particular attention to Symbolism. After outlining the historical, biographical, and cultural background of the author, the research reconstructs his intellectual formation, shaped by geographical distance from his homeland and by continuous mediation between different linguistic and cultural environments. The thesis also considers Bogdanovič’s contribution to the development of the Belarusian literary language through both his poetic output and his essayistic and translational activity. The central part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of the poetic corpus, which is divided into two main creative phases. The first phase is characterised by the symbolic reworking of mythological and folkloric material, while the second phase shows an increasing focus on historical, civic, and national themes. The analysis addresses recurring thematic patterns, formal choices, and expressive strategies adopted by the author. From a methodological perspective, the study is based on close textual analysis and on engagement with the relevant literary criticism. The thesis aims to provide a coherent interpretation of Bogdanovič’s poetics, situating his work within the broader framework of early twentieth-century European literary culture and within the process of formation of a modern Belarusian national literature.
