This work includes an Italian translation, a commentary, and an introductory essay on Theocritus' Idyll 2. The translation and commentary provide the tools to address the main interpretative issues raised by the Idyll, with a particular focus on the linguistic, philological, and stylistic aspects of the text. Building on these observations, the introductory essay aims to frame the poem in its historical context, by interpreting its fundamental themes as part of a broader cultural debate on the therapeutic effectiveness of magic and medicine in the Hellenistic age, the main outlines of which will be traced, and by investigating Theocritus' own position in this dispute.

Abstract
This work includes an Italian translation, a commentary, and an introductory essay on Theocritus' Idyll 2. The translation and commentary provide the tools to address the main interpretative issues raised by the Idyll, with a particular focus on the linguistic, philological, and stylistic aspects of the text. Building on these observations, the introductory essay aims to frame the poem in its historical context, by interpreting its fundamental themes as part of a broader cultural debate on the therapeutic effectiveness of magic and medicine in the Hellenistic age, the main outlines of which will be traced, and by investigating Theocritus' own position in this dispute.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
