The clinical interview with patients from a different cultural background is characterized by specific features related to this type of service user, such as cultural difference and the traumatic burden of many clinical histories. Therefore, therapists are required to face challenges that expose them to higher risks of burnout and vicarious trauma, but that can also turn into resources for personal growth. Thus, in the present thesis, it was considered useful to investigate how therapists’ narratives are configured with respect to their own experience with this service user group. To this aim, twenty psychologists were interviewed, each of whom had experience with at least one patient from a different cultural background. A semi structured interview was chosen, built around the macro themes of personal experience, cultural differences, difficulties, and management strategies. The transcripts were subsequently analysed through Harré’s Positioning Analysis, in order to highlight the storylines and the positions that emerged in relation to each interview question. In the concluding discussion, the insights obtained will be examined in order to contribute to the literature in this field through a less explored discursive perspective.

Abstract
In the concluding discussion, the insights obtained will be examined in order to contribute to the literature in this field through a less explored discursive perspective.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
