This study aims to investigate mental health and psychological well-being during Emerging Adulthood. In particular, it focuses on the relationship between academic psychological distress and indicators of psychological distress and suicide risk, also considering the role of other psychological constructs, namely personality traits according to the Big Five theory and coping strategies. An additional aim of this research is to examine possible differences between emerging adult university students and working emerging adults in the investigated constructs. The sample consists of 762 emerging adults aged between 18 and 30 years. Data were collected through an online survey, including a socio-demographic questionnaire and standardized selfreport measures. The results highlight a greater psychological vulnerability among university students, showing how personality traits, coping strategies, and suicide risk influence both academic distress and emotional symptoms, and how academic distress, in turn, contributes to a greater intensity of emotional distress. From a clinical perspective, this study underlines the importance of prevention, promotion of psychological well-being, and support interventions during Emerging Adulthood, with particular attention to the university context.
