During the 16th century, in Italy, a rich literary production on agriculture and “life in the villa” accompanied the renewed interest of the aristocracy in landed property. These texts varied in form and structure and aimed to teach the landowner how to manage his estates as well as how to spend his time honourably in the countryside. Starting from the analysis of some exemplary works, this work examines the strategies with which this literary production constructed, promoted, and disseminated a lifestyle, that of the "gentleman in the villa", destined to be widely successful.

Abstract
During the 16th century, in Italy, a rich literary production on agriculture and “life in the villa” accompanied the renewed interest of the aristocracy in landed property. These texts varied in form and structure and aimed to teach the landowner how to manage his estates as well as how to spend his time honourably in the countryside. Starting from the analysis of some exemplary works, this work examines the strategies with which this literary production constructed, promoted, and disseminated a lifestyle, that of the "gentleman in the villa", destined to be widely successful.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
