This work of thesis consists in the study of an existing masonry building, nowadays in a state of abandonment: the building is located in the Province of Vicenza, specifically in Fara Vicentino, and it belongs to Bidese family. The objective of this study is to analyse the structure and its vulnerabilities, with the aim of developing a reinforcement and renovation plan to write a new chapter of its history. The work consists in three phases starting from an introduction where the context is described and the consultation of documents is carried out, in order to verify the presence of urban restrictions. The second phase concerns the building specifically: a direct testimony from the owner, Virginio Bidese, is reported, and an on-site inspection is carried out, in order to obtain as many informations as possible about construction details and strategies. The third and last phase consists in the structural analysis of the building by the use of spreadsheets and softwares. At first, the structural units to recover and to demolish have been distinguished. For the rehabilitation of the existing units, a structural model has been defined for the current condition in order to analyse the vulnerabilities and to plan the reinforcements; then, after the reinforcements planning, a second structural model has been created in order to verify their efficiency and to guarantee the safety of the building. For the structural units to demolish and rebuild, a separated structural model was created. In both cases, every effort was made to minimise the differencies between the current and design condition, in order to give to the final result an architectural balance with the building’s origins and with the surrounding context.
