This thesis analyses the intellectual and professional relationship between the archaeologists Gherardo Ghirardini and Luigi Pigorini through the study of their correspondence preserved in the Fondo Pigorini at the University of Padua. The letters sent by Ghirardini to Pigorini, previously unpublished, have been transcribed, annotated, and critically examined in order to provide a more nuanced and multifaceted portrait of the scholar. The analysis of the correspondence has allowed for the reconstruction of the scholarly, institutional, and personal network connecting the two figures, shedding light on the dynamics of their collaboration, the topics of discussion, and the role played by Ghirardini within the cultural and archaeological context of the time. The letters represent a privileged source for understanding not only Ghirardini's thought and method, but also his relationship with the broader landscape of Italian antiquarian and prehistoric studies during the period under consideration. This thesis aims to make a contribution to the history of Italian palaethnology, casting new light on a key figure of the discipline through unpublished documents that enrich our understanding of the development of palaethnological studies in Italy.
