Violenza squadrista a Verona e provincia (1919-1924): un'analisi attraverso le fonti di polizia.

The thesis analyses the rise of fascism in the Verona area between 1919 and 1924, focusing on the role of squadrist violence. In a context marked by strong social conflict, the violent actions of the fascist squads were a decisive tool for mobilisation, intimidation and control of the territory. The work reconstructs the main squadrist initiatives and the way in which they were interpreted and tolerated by the authorities, often presented as a response to the socialist threat and post-war disorder. Particular attention is paid to local dynamics and the specificities of the Verona case, especially in the relationship between city and countryside. The research is largely based on judicial sources, supplemented by contemporary press reports and historiography, and aims to reconstruct squadrist violence using sources that both document and mitigate it, making both what is explicitly stated and what is omitted analytically relevant.

La tesi analizza l’affermazione del fascismo nel territorio veronese tra il 1919 e il 1924, ponendo al centro il ruolo della violenza squadrista. In un contesto segnato da forte conflittualità sociale, le azioni violente delle squadre fasciste rappresentarono uno strumento decisivo di mobilitazione, intimidazione e controllo del territorio. Il lavoro ricostruisce le principali iniziative squadristiche e il modo in cui esse vennero interpretate e tollerate dalle autorità, spesso presentate come risposta alla minaccia socialista e al disordine del dopoguerra. Particolare attenzione è dedicata alle dinamiche locali e alle specificità del caso veronese, soprattutto nel rapporto tra città e campagna. La ricerca si basa in larga parte su fonti giudiziarie, affiancate dalla stampa dell’epoca e dalla storiografia,e intende ricostruire la violenza squadrista a partire da fonti che la documentano e al tempo stesso la attenuano, rendendo analiticamente rilevanti sia ciò che viene esplicitato sia ciò che viene omesso.
