Youth Work and Local Development: an analysis of the strategy of Animar - Associação Portuguesa para o Desenvolvimento Local through the case of the Academia de Ativismo

Over the last fifteen years, financial, migratory, democratic, climate, pandemic crises, and now a war at Europe's doorstep have questioned the Western expectation for security, freedom, and progress given for granted in its predictable future; therefore, the new generations are confronting with unforeseen challenges they might not be ready to face yet. Starting from a systemic and integrated analysis of the concept of development and passing through an in-depth contextualization of the condition of youth, this research proposes the Academia de Ativismo as a case study of innovative educational methodologies that, by exploring the concepts of activism and community, have the ambition of contributing to the training of young people to be leaders of the transformation towards sustainable, inclusive, just, and peaceful societies.

Negli ultimi quindici anni le crisi finanziaria, migratoria, democratica, climatica, pandemica, e ora una guerra alle porte dell’Europa hanno fatto crollare l’idea di sicurezza, libertà, e progresso che l’Occidente aveva costruito per il proprio futuro; dunque, le nuove generazioni si trovano ad affrontare sfide impreviste per le quali non sono stati preparati. Partendo da un’analisi sistemica e integrata del concetto di sviluppo, e passando da una contestualizzazione approfondita della condizione giovanile, questa ricerca propone l’Academia de Ativismo come caso studio di metodologie educative innovative che, investendo sui concetti di attivismo e comunità, hanno l’ambizione di preparare i giovani ad essere leader della trasformazione verso società sostenibili, inclusive, giuste, e pacifiche.
