This thesis aims to investigate the influence of media exposure on the lexical availability of a sample of Italian university students learning Spanish as a foreign language (SFL). It begins with an overview of lexical acquisition in a foreign language, followed by an examination of different approaches to lexical teaching. The second part focuses on the development of lexical availability studies and their applications, especially in the field of language teaching. The final section is devoted to the case study, which includes both a quantitative and qualitative analysis of students’ available lexicon, with particular attention to the impact of media exposure on the results. Furthermore, the thesis offers a reflection on the role of digital resources as tools for enhancing lexical competence.
