Le patrimoine olfactif au Sénégal : savoir-faire des Laobés et usages sociaux de l'encens(Curay)

This thesis examines Senegal’s olfactory heritage through the traditional knowledge of the Laobé community and the social uses of incense. It highlights the traditional techniques of incense making as well as its role in everyday life, ritual practices, and cultural representations. Drawing on an anthropological and heritage-based approach, this research demonstrates how these skills and practices contribute to the transmission of intangible cultural heritage. It also explores the challenges involved in preserving and promoting this heritage in the context of globalization.

Ce mémoire étudie le patrimoine olfactif au Sénégal à travers les savoir-faire des Laobés et les usages sociaux de l’encens. Il met en lumière les techniques traditionnelles de fabrication de l’encens ainsi que son rôle dans la vie quotidienne, les pratiques rituelles et les représentations culturelles. À partir d’une approche anthropologique et patrimoniale, cette recherche montre comment ces savoir-faire et ces pratiques participent à la transmission d’un patrimoine culturel immatériel. Elle s’interroge également sur les enjeux de leur préservation et de leur valorisation dans un contexte de mondialisation.
