This research investigates military aviation propaganda in the magazine Popular Science Monthly (1939-1945), examining how American popular science discourse systematically erased the violence and trauma of the conflict. Through the analysis of four rhetorical constructs, namely spatial invulnerability, the neutralization inherent in speed, the myth of industrial efficiency, and the mathematical abstraction of precision, the study demonstrates how the destructive machine was transfigured into an infallible and reassuring technical ecosystem. The thesis highlights how this semantic purification fostered the construction of domestic consensus, enshrining national engineering superiority and legitimizing the war effort through technological primacy.

Abstract
This research investigates military aviation propaganda in the magazine Popular Science Monthly (1939-1945), examining how American popular science discourse systematically erased the violence and trauma of the conflict. Through the analysis of four rhetorical constructs, namely spatial invulnerability, the neutralization inherent in speed, the myth of industrial efficiency, and the mathematical abstraction of precision, the study demonstrates how the destructive machine was transfigured into an infallible and reassuring technical ecosystem. The thesis highlights how this semantic purification fostered the construction of domestic consensus, enshrining national engineering superiority and legitimizing the war effort through technological primacy.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
