The thesis studies Bayesian inference when a complete generative model for the data is not available. The case of interest is the joint estimation of local projections for impulse response functions, where the overlap of forecast horizons prevents the specification of a joint likelihood and leads to the use of a pseudo-likelihood. The theoretical framework is generalized Bayesian inference, where belief updating is based on a loss function and the posterior distribution depends on a learning rate. The consequences of misspecification for the calibration of credible intervals are discussed, and different strategies for choosing the learning rate in the power posterior are compared through a simulation study.

Abstract
The thesis studies Bayesian inference when a complete generative model for the data is not available. The case of interest is the joint estimation of local projections for impulse response functions, where the overlap of forecast horizons prevents the specification of a joint likelihood and leads to the use of a pseudo-likelihood. The theoretical framework is generalized Bayesian inference, where belief updating is based on a loss function and the posterior distribution depends on a learning rate. The consequences of misspecification for the calibration of credible intervals are discussed, and different strategies for choosing the learning rate in the power posterior are compared through a simulation study.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
