Paesaggio, patrimonio e identità: il caso studio di Battaglia Terme

Through the in-depth study of the aspects that characterize the relationship between population, landscape and in particular the historical and artistic heritage that characterizes it, the relationship between the inhabitants of Battaglia Terme with the landscape and the historical and artistic heritage present in their place of birth will be investigated. life In the first chapter of this work, some theoretical references useful for understanding the concepts of landscape, identity and heritage, complex notions with multiple aspects, whose meanings require a multidisciplinarity to be fully understood, will be treated. Starting from an analysis of the principles enunciated by the European Landscape Convention, we will proceed with references to some assumptions regarding identity and to some theories and research experiences gained in the field of environmental psychology, focusing the research on the concept of place attachment, and in the field of humanistic geography on the concept of sense of place. A reflection will also meet the novelty features proposed by the 2005 Faro Convention, amended by Italy in September 2020, regarding the involvement of the population in cultural practices and activities. The second chapter will be dedicated to local heritage, which is difficult to ascribe to a single category. After an appropriate introduction on the foundation and the historical events of Battaglia Terme, its characteristic features will be treated: from the hydraulic artifacts of the Arco di Mezzo and the navigation basin linked to river navigation and milling activity, to its historical and artistic beauties. , such as the Castello del Catajo and Villa Selvatico, and naturalistic beauties such as the Ferro di Cavallo path. Tourism initiatives in the area will also have a mention. Finally, reflections will be carried out on the results of this first qualitative field research, which took place between November 2021 and February 2022 through semi-structured interviews with current and former residents of Battaglia Terme, to analyze their relationship with the place of life. and the heritage it hosts, to understand how citizens perceive and evaluate their place of life; the role they attribute to the landscape and to the historical and artistic heritage present in it; what they believe is essential to preserve and pass on to future generations; what interventions they deem appropriate in order to improve the quality of the territory and the use of its heritage also in the tourism sector. At the end of the paper, there will be some reflections by the author in the light of the data that emerged and of the proposals regarding the participation of citizens in the activity and enjoyment of the cultural heritage of Battaglia Terme.

Attraverso l’approfondimento degli aspetti che caratterizzano il rapporto tra popolazione, paesaggio e in particolare il patrimonio storico e artistico che lo caratterizza, verrà indagato il rapporto tra gli abitanti di Battaglia Terme con il paesaggio e il patrimonio storico e artistico presente nel loro luogo di vita Nel primo capitolo del presente lavoro verranno trattati alcuni riferimenti teorici utili a comprendere i concetti di paesaggio, identità e patrimonio, nozioni complesse e dai molteplici aspetti, i cui significati richiedono una multidisciplinarità per essere pienamente compresi. Partendo da un’analisi dei principi enunciati dalla Convenzione europea del paesaggio, si procederà con riferimenti ad alcuni assunti in merito all’identità e ad alcune teorie ed esperienze di ricerca maturate nell’ambito della psicologia ambientale, incentrando la ricerca sul concetto di place attachment, e nell’ambito della geografia umanistica sul concetto di sense of place. Una riflessione incontreranno anche i caratteri di novità proposti dalla Convenzione di Faro del 2005, rettificata dall’Italia nel settembre 2020, in merito al coinvolgimento della popolazione nelle pratiche e attività culturali. Il secondo capitolo sarà dedicato al patrimonio locale, difficilmente ascrivibile a una sola categoria. Dopo un’opportuna introduzione sulla fondazione e le vicende storiche di Battaglia Terme, verranno trattati i suoi tratti caratteristici: dai manufatti idraulici dell’Arco di Mezzo e della conca di navigazione legati alla navigazione fluviale e all’attività molitoria, alle sue bellezze storico artistiche, quali il Castello del Catajo e Villa Selvatico, e le bellezze naturalistiche quali il sentiero Ferro di Cavallo. Una menzione avranno anche le iniziative turistiche nel territorio. Infine, verranno attuate delle riflessioni sugli esiti di questa prima ricerca sul campo, di tipo qualitativo, avvenuta tra novembre 2021 e febbraio 2022 attraverso interviste semi-strutturate agli attuali ed ex residenti di Battaglia Terme, per analizzare il loro rapporto con il luogo di vita e il patrimonio che ospita, per comprendere come i cittadini percepiscano e valutino il loro luogo di vita; il ruolo che essi attribuiscono al paesaggio e al patrimonio storico e artistico in esso presenti; cosa ritengono sia fondamentale preservare e tramandare alle generazioni future; quali interventi ritengono opportuni al fine di migliorare la qualità del territorio e la fruizione del suo patrimonio anche in ambito turistico. A conclusione dell’elaborato, ci saranno delle riflessioni dell’autrice alla luce dei dati emersi e delle proposte in merito alla partecipazione dei cittadini all’attività e alla fruizione dell’eredità culturale di Battaglia Terme.
