This thesis looks at two existing Cereal Docks’ photovoltaic systems, and aims to add battery energy storage systems (BESS) to try to increase the company's self-consumption and thus energy independence with their own renewable energy sources. This is done through the sequent actions: Sizing of two options of batteries for each plant. Evaluation of plants self-consumption, new withdrawal and injected electric energy along with the difference in the monthly peaks, with the aim to verify that the sizing of the batteries is effective to reach the legislation target (RED III) and in order to identify expenses and the earnings deriving from them. Abstract

This has been done thanks to simulations of three strategies for each battery: Zero Power Exchange, Pure Peak Shaving and a hybrid one in which only a percentage of the battery was allocated to peak shaving. Presentation an economic balance assessment, in order to identify the best battery-programming model from an economic point of view too, searching for the shortest Simple Payback Period. Final balanced scenarios are then proposed, trying to find the best options that could guarantee the greater energy independence from renewable energy sources along the shortest economic return, to ensure that the company investment is worthy.
