Coccolithophores are marine microalgae, known for absorbing carbon dioxide and producing a calcium carbonate coccosphere, a natural material that, thanks to its characteristics of high porosity and complex geometry, lends itself to being used in advanced applications, such as the development of biomaterials for bone tissue regeneration. The present thesis work has been structured into two distinct phases: the first, of an experimental nature, focused on the optimization of productivity and coccosphere growth through the variation of the possible operational parameters. Subsequently, the second phase involves the design and feasibility analysis of an industrial process that extends from the cultivation of coccolithophores to the final transformation of the coccosphere into biomaterial destined for bone regeneration.

Abstract
Coccolithophores are marine microalgae, known for absorbing carbon dioxide and producing a calcium carbonate coccosphere, a natural material that, thanks to its characteristics of high porosity and complex geometry, lends itself to being used in advanced applications, such as the development of biomaterials for bone tissue regeneration. The present thesis work has been structured into two distinct phases: the first, of an experimental nature, focused on the optimization of productivity and coccosphere growth through the variation of the possible operational parameters. Subsequently, the second phase involves the design and feasibility analysis of an industrial process that extends from the cultivation of coccolithophores to the final transformation of the coccosphere into biomaterial destined for bone regeneration.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
