This thesis aims to analyze the evolution of hospital care in the city of Padua during the decisive transition from the hospitalia to the modern hospital, culminating in the foundation of the Ospedale di San Francesco Grande. Starting with an overview of the preexisting local charitable institutions—fragmented hospices originally conceived more as places of hospitality and spiritual care than of true clinical medicine—the study investigates the reasons that necessitated the creation of a modern, centralized hub. The research delves into the origins of the institute, born from the synergy between the private initiative of the spouses Baldo Bonafari and Sibilia de Cetto, the administrative action of the Scuola della Carità, and the support of the Municipality, before examining its innovative architectural and planimetric design. Finally, the work explores the internal organization of care, the essential link with the University of Padua, and the immense international prestige gained by the structure, as evidenced by the accounts of European travelers, doctors, and students during the Grand Tour.

Abstract
Finally, the work explores the internal organization of care, the essential link with the University of Padua, and the immense international prestige gained by the structure, as evidenced by the accounts of European travelers, doctors, and students during the Grand Tour.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
