This thesis presents an analysis of the characteristics of legal language from an Italian-Russian contrastive perspective, highlighting the distinctive features of legal texts within the two cultures and their morphosyntactic properties. The research takes on a practical dimension through the translation from Russian into Italian of criminal judgment No. 2-4/2022 of the Sverdlovskiy Oblastnoy Sud, exploring the theoretical and methodological complexities of specialized translation between different legal systems. The analysis focuses in particular on the issue of terminological non-equivalence, leading to a description of the conceptual, lexical, and syntactic difficulties encountered during the translation process, as well as a commentary on the translation choices made. The work concludes with the compilation of two bilingual glossaries containing terms extracted from judgment No. 2-4/2022 related to Russian criminal proceedings and the production and sale of narcotic substances. The central aim of this thesis is to demonstrate, through practical examples, how legal translation constitutes a complex process of interinstitutional mediation, intrinsically linked to the conceptual and linguistic asymmetries between different legal systems.
