Di- and trinuclear complexes of copper(I) with di- and tri-N-heterocyclic carbene ligands have been evaluated as catalysts in nitrene transfer reactions (aziridination, insertion of nitrenes into C-H bonds). The complexes exhibited good reactivity in aziridination reactions and modest reactivity in insertion of nitrenes into C-H bonds. The aziridination reactions were performed with only 2 mol% [Cu]. Complexes of silver(I), gold(I) and gold (III) with poly-N-heterocyclic carbene ligands have been evaluated as catalysts in aziridination reactions.
