During my thesis I have tried to synthesized a push-pull porphyrin, one of the most promising classes of organic sensitizers in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC). After a preliminary retro-synthetic analysis, needful to plan the correct synthesis path, I built up the porphyrin macrocycle first, and then I functionalized it with an acceptor group (benzoic acid) and a donor one (triphenilamine) both connected to the porphyrin ring with a methine bridge. Every intermediate was purified and then characterized. The difficulties encountered during the purification steps let me to evaluated alternative strategies of synthesis, laying the groundwork for future projects particularly interesting in a view of large-scale production of these porphyrins.
