In this project, a newly designed hyperthermia applicator for head and neck tumours is investigated, as the treatment in this region is particularly challenging and improvement-demanding. This device allows a tumour volume- and location-specific treatment in the frequency band 400MHz-1GHz. After a first parametrization study, for the two regions 1x10 and 2x8 applicators are finally suggested as the most promising ones. These were then applied to the cases of laryngeal, nasal and tongue tumours

Abstract

In this project, a newly designed hyperthermia applicator for head and neck tumours is investigated, as the treatment in this region is particularly challenging and improvement-demanding. This device allows a tumour volume- and location-specific treatment in the frequency band 400MHz-1GHz. After a first parametrization study, for the two regions 1x10 and 2x8 applicators are finally suggested as the most promising ones. These were then applied to the cases of laryngeal, nasal and tongue tumours
