In this thesis we analyze the effects of the construction of retention basins, at the Grave of Papadopoli site, on the hydraulic hazard mitigation in the lower course of the Piave River. In particular, we analyzed the effectiveness of such an intervention on the lamination of a more than a century overflow, as might have been the flood occurred in November 1966. The analysis was carried out by using a full-fledged finite element model of the complete shallow water equations, under the assumption of an inerodible bed, and a software providing a graphical interface for the visualization of the results. Issues related to aspects concerning the hydrological and geomorphological evolution of the river were also analyzed, based on the current configuration of the system and in the case of the proposed interventions.
