To achieve this result, it was decided to add a linear axis to the base, increasing the reachable points and thus obtaining a system with 7 DOF, excellent for Pick & Place operations. To perform the integration between these two systems, it was opted for an open source development environment: ROS (Robot Operating System). It consists of a set of software containing all the necessary tools for the manipulation and control of a robotic system, also adding multiple features such as the possibility of integrating external sensors (e.g. 3D cameras) to study the surrounding environment, or interfacing with other systems throught LAN. In addition to all these features, what lmakes choosing ROS, is the fact that being open source, it allows to integrate any robotic system in an easy and flexible way, starting from those already on the market up to the newest prototypes. Abstract

Over the past few decades, the development of robotic systems has grown significantly, requiring deep integration with the surrounding environment. This has led to the search for increasingly modular and flexible systems, expanding their handling and interaction capabilities. Starting from a historical system and pioneer of robotics, an anthropomorphic robot with six degrees of freedom, it was wanted to obtain an evolution, in order to improve one of its limits: the working area. In this way it is possible to reach a very high level of collaboration between devices, allowing the existence of a strongly interconnected robotic environment.

Integration of a Collaborative Robot with a Linear axis using ROS.
