Padua in the 1930s experienced a set of very significant changes but at the same time maintained its own characteristics that influenced its adhesion to Fascism. The present work has set out to recount the life of Padua in that interval of time in which Fascism acquired a respectable city physiognomy, putting aside the most extreme squadrism and building the imperial myth day after day. Reading the newspapers of the time allowed us to reconstruct the city climate between the Plebiscite of 1929 and the elections of 1934, the two political moments in which Paduans responded triumphantly to the regime's 'call'. But how and how much did the citizens' everyday life change, to what extent was adhesion conditioned by the intransigent fascist organisation and how much did the emergence of a new political class succeed in changing the balance of power?

Abstract
Padua in the 1930s experienced a set of very significant changes but at the same time maintained its own characteristics that influenced its adhesion to Fascism. The present work has set out to recount the life of Padua in that interval of time in which Fascism acquired a respectable city physiognomy, putting aside the most extreme squadrism and building the imperial myth day after day. Reading the newspapers of the time allowed us to reconstruct the city climate between the Plebiscite of 1929 and the elections of 1934, the two political moments in which Paduans responded triumphantly to the regime's 'call'. But how and how much did the citizens' everyday life change, to what extent was adhesion conditioned by the intransigent fascist organisation and how much did the emergence of a new political class succeed in changing the balance of power?File | Dimensione | Formato | |
