Introduction: Currently, there is no available tool to adequately assess subjective orgasm perception (SOP). Objectives: The research aims at providing a contribution to the validation of the Orgasmic Perception Questionnaire (OPQ), a questionnaire that investigates SOP through 5 factors: Ecstasy, Muscle tremors, Wellbeing, Power, and Neurovegetative modifications. Methods: test-retest reliability was evaluated in a sample of 185 individuals (M = 23.16; S.D. = 4.51); thereafter, convergent validity and divergent validity were assessed in a sample of 179 people (M = 24.39; S.D. = 5.28) and in a sample of 198 people (M = 26.20; S.D. = 6.74) respectively, by evaluating correlations of the OPQ with the Orgasm Rating Scale (ORS) and with the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding (BIDR 6); MANOVAs were conducted to assess differences in the factors of the OPQ based on gender; internal consistency was evaluated through Cronbach’s alpha. Results: Internal consistency was adequate (α > .60) for all factors, which correlated with the dimension of the ORS (p<.05). Finally, small but significant correlations were found among BIDR 6 and 3 factors of the OPQ (p<.05). Conclusions: The OPQ could be a valid and reliable tool but further reseach is necessary to finalize its validation.
