We present an analysis of different models of opinion formation, providing both theoretical results and some MATLAB simulations for small groups of agents. In particular, in the first part of the thesis we examine models in which the interactions among the agents are cooperative, namely the latter cooperate in order to reach an agreement shifting their opinions towards each other. Instead, in the second part, we consider models in which positive ties among the agents coexist with negative ties, arising due to large discrepancies of their opinions and leading to their distancing.

Abstract

We present an analysis of different models of opinion formation, providing both theoretical results and some MATLAB simulations for small groups of agents. In particular, in the first part of the thesis we examine models in which the interactions among the agents are cooperative, namely the latter cooperate in order to reach an agreement shifting their opinions towards each other. Instead, in the second part, we consider models in which positive ties among the agents coexist with negative ties, arising due to large discrepancies of their opinions and leading to their distancing.
