The topic addressed in the following research is that of nomadic populations and specifically, the quality of the relationships that these communities have been able to weave with the majority Italian population. The thesis is divided in tho phases: a first part of purely theoretical orientation that addresses the issue from a historical, cultural and sociological aspect. Subsequently, it develops on the research concerning the nomadic community of Bassano del Grappa. The first chapter is dedicated to the origin, history and diffusion of nomadic peoples and the route that from northern India, cradle of origin of nomadic culture, led them to reach Europe several centuries ago. The second chapter deals with the cultural aspect of the issue, investigating the distinctive features of Romanì culture. The third chapter provides an overview of theoretical contributions related to the branch of sociology of deviance, whose literature has investigated some behaviors of nomadic populations. To conclude this first part, some statistical data are reported, illustrating the current extent of the spread of nomadic communities in Italy and in the Veneto Region. The second phase of this paper consists of a fifth chapter that illustrates the qualitative investigation that has marked my research experience. It consists of some thematic and semi-structured interviews with privileged witnesses, aimed at investigating the professional and personal experience of the witnesses with some members of the Romanì community in the city of Bassano del Grappa. The purpose of the work has been to investigate the stereotypes that still influence the majority population's conception of members of this minority. From the analysis of the texts of the interviews it has been possible to carry out a survey work that has enabled the realization of the sixth chapter dedicated to the discussion of the results that emerged from the qualitative investigation. It has emerged that Romanì culture is still largely unknown and unpopular, and is often the protagonist of processes of stigmatization and labeling. It is confused and often included in the macrocategory of the migrant masses, and often arouses feelings of fear and mistrust among the majority population. A picture emerged that is, on the whole, characterized by important social differences and distances, in which nomadic communities continue to maintain a certain degree of isolation, both intentional and induced. All this does not facilitate the successful implementation of inclusion projects.
