In this thesis project, soil centipedes (Chilopoda: Geophilomorpha) were sampled in forest soils in Valle Camonica in order to understand their community composition. Sampling was carried out in ca. 20 sites by hand searching method within small (ca. 300 m^2) and uniform areas spread in the studied territory. Local species richness of ca. 20 sites was estimated, and methods and rarefaction curves were used to estimate the total number of expected species. Results show that the maximum number of species estimated in a site is 11 and there is a total number of 19-20 different species present in the area. Therefore, results suggest that forest soils of Valle Camonica have rich communities of soil centipedes.
