The reading of a number of texts written during the "AIDS years" allows us to study the literary theme of the disease and to address the cultural discourses related to it. As a real "epidemic of meaning" (P. Treichler), AIDS constitutes a representative challenge in the literary field: the testing of the autobiographical enterprise (through the branch of auto-pathography) and the emergence of a "literature of accompaniment" (A. Gefen) representing two aspects of the narrative of the disease, that of the self and that of the other. The analysis will allow us to understand the ways in which the literature resists and speaks out against the objectification of the sick by the biomedical apparatus and against the stigmatization by society.

Abstract
The reading of a number of texts written during the "AIDS years" allows us to study the literary theme of the disease and to address the cultural discourses related to it. As a real "epidemic of meaning" (P. Treichler), AIDS constitutes a representative challenge in the literary field: the testing of the autobiographical enterprise (through the branch of auto-pathography) and the emergence of a "literature of accompaniment" (A. Gefen) representing two aspects of the narrative of the disease, that of the self and that of the other. The analysis will allow us to understand the ways in which the literature resists and speaks out against the objectification of the sick by the biomedical apparatus and against the stigmatization by society.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
