Tocqueville, un «liberale di una specie nuova». Libertà, classe media e proprietà.

In the present work we will investigate the way in which Tocqueville deals with the new democratic order, an irresistible disposition, analyzing in it the strategies - political and social - to be able to preserve and prosper freedom, when conditions among citizens become more and more equal. In particular, we will focus on the theme of the middle class and the possible risks associated with the fact that it remains the only class that can govern the nation, highlighting the differences that exist at the political level between a society of people born equal, such as that American, and a society of individuals who become equal, through the revolution, as is the case in French society. In addition, we will focus on the importance that property has in Tocquevillian thought and how relevant habit is, in relation to it. This central theme will be analyzed as a possible terrain of confrontation and analysis with respect to the growing social and political demands on the part of those who had traditionally been excluded from society itself and from political life, considering the attitude that the thinker had towards the revolution of the 1848.

Nel presente lavoro si indagherà il modo in cui Tocqueville si confronta con il nuovo ordine democratico, una tendenza irresistibile, analizzando in esso le strategie - politiche e sociali - per poter conservare e far prosperare la libertà, nel momento in cui le condizioni fra i cittadini divengono sempre più uguali. In particolar modo, ci si concentrerà sul tema della classe media e sui possibili rischi connessi al fatto che essa rimanga l'unica classe a poter governare la nazione, evidenziando le differenze che intercorrono a livello politico tra una società di persone nate uguali, come quella americana, e una società di individui che diventano uguali, attraverso la rivoluzione, come è il caso della società francese. Inoltre, ci si soffermerà sull'importanza che la proprietà ha nel pensiero tocquevilliano e quanto risulti essere rilevante l'abitudine, in relazione alla stessa. Questo tema centrale verrà analizzato come possibile terreno di scontro e di analisi rispetto alle crescenti richieste sociali e politiche da parte di coloro che tradizionalmente erano stati esclusi dalla società stessa e dalla vita politica, considerando l'atteggiamento che il pensatore ebbe nei confronti della rivoluzione del 1848.
