BACKGROUND. Very often people with intellectual disabilities lead a sedentary lifestyle and have lower levels of physical activity than the general population. The main barriers encountered are the lack of support, low motivation and the unwillingness to engage in activities but also the presence of physical and environmental barriers. However, physical activity has positive effects on maintaining physical fitness, general well-being and cognitive and social function. AIM OF THE STUDY. The project aims to observe whether an adapted, individualized and personalized motor activity program can affect the improvement and maintenance of motor skills and abilities, improve the emotional-humoral and relational state of the person being examined. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The program intervention is aimed at a man with moderate intellectual disability and behavioral disorders. The activity took place in the internal and external spaces of the residential structure called Opera della Provvidenza Sant'Antonio (O.P.S.A). The intervention lasted 3 months and included 3 weekly meetings lasting one hour each. Both quantitative and qualitative assessments were collected at three different times: at the beginning of the intervention, in the middle and at the end. The quantitative data were collected through the administration of motor tests and the Tinetti scale, the qualitative ones through the compilation of a logbook. RESULTS. At the end of the intervention, it emerged that personalized and adapted physical activity led to improvements from a motor point of view in two of the four tests administered (Time up and go test and 30s Chair stand test); the administration of the Tinetti scale also showed positive results in terms of balance and gait. The results that emerge from the logbook show that physical activity has had a positive effect on the subject's emotional-mood state. CONCLUSIONS. The results obtained confirm the hypothesis that an adapted motor activity program can bring benefits both from a motor and emotional-humoral point of view, thus making it an excellent tool for improving the quality of life of the subject.

PRESUPPOSTI DELLO STUDIO.
